"It's The End of The World As We Know It"
12.19.07
BY MIKEY MIGO

I occasionally find myself day dreaming about "the end of the world". Maybe I should get meds, but the hypothetical thought of all existence vanishing is both interesting and frightening to me. I had a Catholic school up bringing (not proud of it) and without getting into religious debates, the whole idea of "revelations" is obviously a discussion topic by many so I don't feel too bad.

Certain profits, philosophers, religions and cults (not much difference between the two) have proclaimed that the world would end on a certain date and it has passed. Some religions have done it more than once. Realistically, it could happen any time. With a blink of an eye we could all be "gone". Even if these people have been wrong, it's their right to live their life like the end is upon them. It probably makes for better experience for all I know.

One belief that many people have is based on the Mayan calendar. The Mayan calendar ends on December 21st, 2012. Many take this situation as the end of time. There's a lot more to it, but you can research it for yourself.

That's not the point of this discussion. What I'm getting at is "What if?" What if that theory is correct and the existence will end in five years? That's a huge question to ponder, so lets simply here. Outside of family, friends, hopes, dreams, and everything that should come first, what about the music world?

Five Years and Counting.

In a cooler and deeper way of thinking "where will they be in five years", lets take a look at how I'd like to see some of today's music stars go out.

Green Day
Green Day returns to their punk roots. They tour with the Sex Pistols and become crasser. They still receive mainstream airplay and prove that real punk can be marketable and accessible.

The White Stripes
They will achieve the status of being this generations Led Zeppelin. You know it's going to happen. Like them or not, they are almost there as it is.

Prince
He will have a growth spurt to a whopping 5'3 1/4

Kanye West
He will go back to college, just so he can continue to keep his album title theme going.

Wu Tang Clan
They will stop arguing long enough to put out another group album within the next five years. Successful solo albums will come as well.

Eminem
Eminem will release the best hip hop album of all time. I'm not even a fan, but I can't deny the fact that he's on the verge of securing himself as one of the top tier hip hop icons of all time.

Incubus
It'd be great to see Incubus regain their stature and put out some more quality albums.

Tool
Tool will continue to rock. Nothing more.

Nine Inch Nails
Trent Reznor will be arrested by the FBI as the album Year Zero will be considered too close to the truth.

Justin Timberlake
He will rotate his moves with Hit album… shitty movie… shitty movie… shitty movie... Rinse and Repeat.

Michael Jackson
After a very successful tour with The Jackson 5, Michael will once again own the pop world. Despite his personal drama and controversy, his talents and history will shine as being one of the greatest performers of all time.

Guns N Roses
"Chinese Democracy" will get a new release date. December 20th, 2012. It will then be delayed.

David Bowie
He needs to get back out there. He's too great to not be blessing us with his musical genius. Give us more albums and some tours. I will not die a happy man if I don't get to see Bowie at least once in concert.

Dresden Dolls
I'd like to see them do two albums. One album of new material that will surely rock (they ARE working on it now) and a cover album. Their cover tracks are always entertaining and would be cover album that would actually be worth it's weight in salt.

Metallica
They will realize that they're like Sampson and by cutting their hair they lost all their bad ass reputation. They will get weaves and "sorta rock".

Ozzy Osborne
Black Sabbath World Tour. Not an Ozzfest thing, but an arena rock show would be perfect. There's not enough good arena rock bands anymore out there. Sabbath was always a bit underrated when it came to their presentation because the music stood on its own.

Kid Rock
Four Words: Tommy Lee. Celebrity Boxing.

Marilyn Manson
He will squeeze out one more drop of controversy and regain his thrown as the top shock rocker in the world.

Diddy
He will find a new artist to collaborate with and reestablish himself as a top hip hop act.

Led Zeppelin
I don't want new Led Zeppelin material. It would be way to risky in tarnishing their legacy as one of the top bands of all time. I would, however, love an extensive tour. Maybe even do something in vein of Ozzfest where it would be a annual tour with other great acts.

U2
People will stop being dicks to Bono. The good he does outweighs the bad ten fold. They will put out music that will live up to their early masterpieces. Not saying the other periods of their career didn't rock as well; even "Pop".

Radiohead
Radiohead should continue their pay what you want formula, but also with live recordings of shows. It would end bootlegging and be a diehard fan's wet dream.

Red Hot Chili Peppers
It'd be great to see the Peppers put out another solid double album and go on an extensive tour with one of my favorite bands.

The Last Note

Okay, while we're with this cryptic topic, I wanna get into another hypothetical question in the same vein. What would be the last song you'd want to hear? Not a funeral song, a disease death, or anything of natural/normal causes. If the world was going to end and you could listen to any song ever made, what would it be? Would it be something close to the heart? Something hard and kick ass? Something completely out there?
