[BLOG]WORST CASE SCENARIO
"The Hall of Fame Goes ‘Legit’!"

“Worst Case Scenario” is a new take on the concept of “fantasy booking”. For years professional wrestling fans would spend endless hours of thinking up the coolest things that could happen. Why waste the energy? This only leads to high expectations. “Worst Case Scenario” flips that. Instead of looking through rose colored glasses, let’s take a bi-weekly look at the worst possible scenarios in professional wrestling. I’m not going to be malicious or anything too mean, but I will not refrain from letting my brain come up with the worst possible shit I can. Sadly, it seems the writers and producers of mainstream TV wrestling and the mainstream iPPV level indies are doing the same thing but charging us for it. And now…

“The Hall of Fame Goes ‘Legit’!”

The WWE Hall of Fame is a work. There really doesn’t seem to be any rhythm or reason to their choices. They stick to a formula of having a “marquee name” or two, a mid-carder, a woman, a really old guy and/or dead guy, and a celebrity with something to conveniently promote. This formula works because the fans expect it and accept it. Speculation about “which celebrity will be next” or “what female will they go with next” is always discussed. If the McMahon family doesn’t see someone fit for their hall of fame then they don’t get in. Why else wouldn’t Randy Savage be in already?

The answer is kind of simple. Make it legit. There are afew ways they could go. The Academy Awards have an interesting way of using a panel AND past winners getting to vote. When you win an Oscar you’re tied to the awards forever because you’re in a cool exclusive club that picks the winners. If the WWE did something like that then only people who are IN the Hall of Fame get a vote, an equal vote.

So pretty much NO ONE would get into the Hall of Fame but the friends of people who are already in. You don’t think anyone would vote too far off because on top of voting in a legit matter, the WWE pays these folks in a legit matter via “legend’s contracts”. Do you think Koko B. Ware would really induct Eric Bishoff? Would Bruno ever vote for someone like a Sabu? Would Jeff Jarrett ever make it? How about Bret Hart nominating Bill Goldberg?

The truth of the matter is that most wrestlers grow into old bitter men. They’ll be polite and friendly, but you know they still know for damn sure they’re way was the right way. Things were better and more strenuous in their time. These kids today don’t know how good they got it…. blah blah blah. Then there are some who just skip over the polite part and just lash out at people, companies, and obvious storylines. It’s as if these old timers get so caught up in their glory that they themselves become the “mark”. They’ve marked out for themselves for so long that everything is “a shoot, brotha”. Seriously, watch like 90% of all wrestling shoot tapes of people who were around before 2000. Bitter. Pompous. Stupid hate. Stupid rivalries. It was ridiculous. I’d like for the Hall of Fame to be “legit”, but personal agenda would get in the way NO MATTER WHAT. We might as well just live with the McMahon agenda. At least we know what we’re getting into….
