“Worst Case Scenario” is a new take on the concept of “fantasy booking”. For years professional wrestling fans would spend endless hours of thinking up the coolest things that could happen. Why waste the energy? This only leads to high expectations. “Worst Case Scenario” flips that. Instead of looking through rose colored glasses, let’s take a bi-weekly look at the worst possible scenarios in professional wrestling. I’m not going to be malicious or anything too mean, but I will not refrain from letting my brain come up with the worst possible shit I can. Sadly, it seems the writers and producers of mainstream TV wrestling and the mainstream iPPV level indies are doing the same thing but charging us for it. And now…
“Screw-Job-a-Mania!”
Everyone knows the story of the old Bret Hart “Screw Job”. It was one of the biggest moments and works of all time. Wrestling has many black eyes involved, but this one is easily the most glorified black eye in wrestling history. The thing is that I truly think it was all a great orchestrated work! People still buy it to this day. It’s almost passé now as Hogan talking about body slamming the four thousand pound, ten feet tall Andre The Giant. We know the story. We just don’t care anymore.
I think the main reason is the fact they’ve hammered it into our heads for years. Bret Hart spent like a decade as a bitter old man complaining about the WWF every chance he got. The WWE made storylines out of it. They would run it into the ground over and over again. They would attempt to recreate “screw jobs” for years to come. I’m fairly certain about half of the WWE roster has experienced their own “screw job” storyline at this point.
So why stop there? Why not have the McMahons go all out and make EVERY MATCH of Wrestlemania Whatever the official “Screw Job-a-Mania”!?
EVERY MATCH…. Screw Job finish! The bell rings early, fast counts, weird and awkward interferences, strange count outs, and bizzare non-finishes that tease the fans with one result and then flips it for no reason whatsoever. At least they had a “reason” for the Hart Screw Job, but here it’s just for fun.
They don’t need a reason to screw anyone over. They just can and will!
