[BLOG]WORST CASE SCENARIO
"Welcome to NXT Smackdown!"

“Worst Case Scenario” is a new take on the concept of “fantasy booking”. For years professional wrestling fans would spend endless hours of thinking up the coolest things that could happen. Why waste the energy? This only leads to high expectations. “Worst Case Scenario” flips that. Instead of looking through rose colored glasses, let’s take a bi-weekly look at the worst possible scenarios in professional wrestling. I’m not going to be malicious or anything too mean, but I will not refrain from letting my brain come up with the worst possible shit I can. Sadly, it seems the writers and producers of mainstream TV wrestling and the mainstream iPPV level indies are doing the same thing but charging us for it. And now…

“Welcome to NXT Smackdown!”

NXT has become one of the most popular things about the WWE amongst the IWC. It’s pretty much the WWE’s self-contained minor league system. The company sends their up and comers to a training facility that seconds as an arena. At this spot the new guys develop characters, work storylines and basically get ready for the next step in their careers. NXT has groomed some great talents and showcased some really cool things.

Most wrestling fans to get into their shows already consider it the “best show in WWE”. I keep reading people say “WWE should just put NXT on TV to replace Smackdown”. That’s exactly what I’m going to focus on today.

WWE Smackdown is dead. Enter NXT Smackdown. It’s a fresh show featuring all the new guys that have yet to “make it”. The trick here is that once the show is on cable television it’s hard to say that everyone involved hasn’t “made it”.

That glaring fact is not the point here. The point is that NXT is now Smackdown. They get a two hour show to feature its talent. The problem here is that it’s the WWE and some things NEVER change.

For the longest time during the brand extension crap WWE would screw Smackdown hard. As soon as someone proved themselves awesome and successful on Smackdown the WWE would pull them from the show and then toss them onto RAW to either rock or flounder. It would often result in Smackdown being hot for a few months and then suck for more than a few more. They’d build new stars and then poof!... RAW feeder.

NXT is already the WWE feeder system. The show has an organic feel to it and showcases tomorrow’s talent on the WWE Network. The second it’s on basic cable it loses its magic and “cult following” image. But so what, right? Let’s put NXT on TV. As soon as the fans start to support someone the WWE takes them from the show, puts them on RAW and turns them into a midcarder or job guy to the already-established guys. The internet would be outraged.

So let’s do this, right? Let’s ruin NXT!
