To me this match served two main purposes. The first and obvious one is to better establish the characters and pending feud between Ebner and Vega and to spotlight Chicago Connection. Vega was around for awhile before this, but was now wearing tights and being “The Professional”. This was Ebner’s second show and first chance to really give it a go in a MEW ring. I’m really impressed how good Ebner and Vega worked together as a team. They would end up breaking up and feuding for the rest of MEW’s lifespan, including their Table Match(see EPISODE 1). Then the spotlighting of Chicago Connection was a must. These two were tearing it up in Chicago scene and came into MEW and did much of the same. They had a strong showing in this tournament and would have a few more solid matches before Styles eventually retired. For what it is, it’s pretty good.
