I suppose it’s good that I’m transferring these over to some form of digital copy before these tapes turn to ash or something. Sorry about that, but it’s still definitely worth checking out. *)
This was a weird match from MEW’s first show. We had the first two rounds of a sixteen man tournament at the first Gathering of the Maniakz. This was part of the second round. Twist beat Wendell Sunshine and I believe Mannix beat PT Hustla. Twist and Mannix worked okay together. The match was okay enough. It had some high spots, not a lot of psychology, and tons of stuff jacked from Japanese wrestling tapes. The real story here is what happens afterwards. We had a 13 year old referee, Johnny Attitude. That kid was amazing. He helped out as much and in most cases more than anyone on the roster, would take any move, and was just all about it. In retrospect it was pretty awkward to see a kid of his age in the ring trying to be an enforcer, but its part of the MEW roots and I’d not change it now even if I could. The end sees Mannix and Danny Scott beat the hell out of Johnny Attitude. Watching them use power moves on the little guy is a bit uncomfortable. You have to give the kid credit though. He took the moves like a champ and sold better than 95% of the adult wrestlers I’d book after him.
